| The
Wind
Have you ever heard the wind go....
"WOOOOOOO?"
it's a pitiful sound I hear.
It seems to chill you through and through
with a strange and speechless fear.
It's the voice of night that broods outside
when folks are still asleep
and many and many a time I cried
to the darkness brooding far and
wide
over the land and the deep.
"Oh
who do you want, oh lonely wind,
that you wail the
whole night through?"
and the wind would say in its meaningful
way....
"YOUOOOO."
My momma told me years ago, when I was
a little tad,
that when the wind
went wailing so,
somebody had been bad.
And then when I was tucked in bed,
where I had been sent,
with the blankets pulled around my head
I'd think of what my mother had said.
"And who's been bad today?"
I'd ask of the wind that harshly blew
and the wind would say in its ghostly way.....
"YOUOOOO!!"
